Foundations often need work as part of larger remodels, but the largest foundation projects tend to be those where we dig down to create more head height in basements.

On excavation it became clear few of the foundation walls even had footings, so that was added to the scope of work along with digging down. A large part of the basement required excavation for the new bathroom, and that area had no footings and block walls as well, so retrofitting occurred there also

A new stairwell was created on the exterior of the home to provide private access and egress from the basement bedroom

Dozens of yards of concrete were poured to create a new interior stairwell, a new, lower slab with insulation and a barrier in front of the leaking wall

The addition takes up several hundred square feet of the rear yard, providing room for a complete master suite, laundry and kitchen

The finished addition includes a covered porch and copies the details of the existing home - trim, windows and knee posts

The solution: removing the slab and digging down. We took out the foundation in 4-foot sections and poured a new, lower foundation to create excellent head height

Before pouring the new slab, we installed rigid insulation. That prevents the radiant heating tubes in the slab from heating up the ground instead of the basement
