The original kitchen was classic '80s oak cabinets with laminate countertops. Both had seen much better days. The wood floors were in need of refinishing and the lighting plan lacked enough lights to illuminate the kitchen properly.
The new cherry cabinets with extra-wide shaker rails bring a deep wood glow to the remodeled kitchen. They were selected with budget in mind but constructed with plywood boxes for longevity.
The new counters are laminate, but with an improvement over the old: a brushed aluminum vertical edge to match appliances and the sink and faucet.
The backsplash tiles are handmade locally by Bedrock Industries and their color brings a nice counterpoint to all the wood.
With just a few added can lights and some under-cabinet lighting, the entire kitchen is well lit and much more functional.
The close eye on budget allowed enough money to also improve a desk area just off the kitchen. Gone are the furniture pieces in favor of built-in cabinets and desktop that match those in the kitchen.
Here and in the kitchen the red oak floors are refinished with Swedish finish. We also replaced window and door trim and painted in both rooms.
All of the careful planning paid off big time for our clients with a kitchen remodel that finished under budget, on time, and with two new spaces that will be well-used by the whole family.
