A lingering concern as the project was planned was how to eliminate the old door into the bedroom. It was in the middle of a room with tile wainscot and it was unclear if that or the floor tile could be located.
Because the remodel had been recent, it was possible to track down all of the tile, and with the new tile in place, it’s impossible to tell where the door once was.
The bedroom selected for conversion to the bath included a number of windows in less than ideal locations.
The new bath includes just one double-hung window with obscured glass for privacy, and is placed so that there is ample room for a mirror.
The vanity is in a dark-stained wood, and a matching linen cabinet is tucked across from it behind the door.
The shower features an acrylic pan with a covered grate, and a custom glass door.
With a rain head and a hand-held shower head controlled by a diverter, it is possible to have a spa-like feel while showering and the convenience to easily clean the shower with the hand-held fixture. The accent tile is marble installed vertically for a nice counterpoint to the horizontal lines of the subway tile.
The result is a functional, beautiful bath with entry doors here and at the closet reclaimed from the original room. Now it’s time to dive into that retirement full time.
