Custom Stairs Seattle - seattle balcony remodel

spiral stair & deck

This Shoreline home has million-dollar views. The problem was, the owners had a hard time actually seeing them. The solution, custom spiral stairs up to a new deck that not only provides views, but also compliments the home's entry. Completed 2009.

Architect: Jim Rymsza of j Architects

project features

  • The flat roof was re-framed to carry additional weight and the Weatherdek surface is attractive and functional
  • Glass railings keep the views open, and give a bit of wind protection on cool evenings
  • The new stacked cultured stone wall adds color and interest to the entry

The new deck is expansive, and takes advantage of an area that was simply a flat roof. The entire area was re-framed to carry the additional weight and the Weatherdek surface is both attractive and functional. Now there's no trouble seeing the Olympics. Glass railings keep the views open, and give a bit of wind protection on cool evenings. The custom stairs have masonry steps for aesthetics and function. A middle 'resting step' gives a chance to catch your breath on the way up. The landing at the bottom is a small addition on the main floor deck A touch added after the project was under way: new stacked cultured stone installed over what was a plain painted concrete wall. The stone adds color and interest to the entry Before: A simple contemporary entry ready for a seattle outdoor remodel After: an entry with interest and accessibility. The views are spectacular, and the new outdoor living space is used regularly by the owners
