Part of the trick was adding only to the rear of the home, and with a side gable that matches the one you see to the right, and extending the peak of the roof to include the addition
The finished addition includes a covered porch and copies the details of the existing home - trim, windows and knee posts.
The driving need for the addition was threefold: this kitchen still had the original cabinets, and was cramped and hard to work in; the clients wanted a master suite with plenty of room and a second bath for their home; and finally, they wanted a more spacious main floor laundry room.
The addition takes up several hundred square feet of the rear yard, providing room for a complete master suite, laundry and kitchen.
The addition takes shape as trusses are installed.
The new kitchen is spacious, with a center island and raised counter.
Custom cherry cabinets are stained a deep red, reflecting the warm, rich paint colors throughout the home.
Looking in the other direction is a doorway to the old office - completely rebuilt.
The kitchen has a lot of traditional detailing with all the modern conveniences. The countertops are a quartz product by Cambria.
Just off the kitchen is the new laundry room, with washer/dryer on one side, and a convenient storage cabinet and folding counter on the other.
The master bathroom has the same custom cherry cabinets as the kitchen. The cabinetmaker also fabricated the mirror frame, so all the wood and stain is consistent. Warm colors continue with the floor tile.
A light-filled master bedroom looks out on the fenced backyard - private but spacious.
Where the cramped kitchen once stood is now a serene and beautiful dining room.
From the table, there's a nice peek of the original river rock fireplace. The door and window trim in this room and through the rest of the home is mixed grain fir, stained to match the original trim.
