how we work
Ventana Construction specializes in residential remodeling for clients who want to make their house into a functional home they love and can stay in for years to come. We work closely with clients and their architects to create a clear plan with an accurate budget and schedule. By taking these steps, we minimize surprises and provide clarity and predictability through each phase.

where to start?
Often we are the first call a homeowner makes when they are interested in starting a remodel. Questions about likely cost, logistics and feasibility are common. We can help at this point with some ballpark costs to help set a realistic budget, and then happily recommend architects and designers to help with a construction set of plans and permitting. With a set of plans we can provide much more accurate pricing and a preliminary schedule. Depending on the complexity of the project, we may recommend a pre-construction contract to further develop the estimate.
Final steps before construction starts include creating a contract, master schedule, written scope of work and specifications and a detailed spreadsheet of decisions still to be made.

Ventana Construction's staff of craftsmen are seasoned professionals, many with decades of experience. All Ventana staff members are hired only after a careful selection process and background check. We use a lead carpenter system, where a lead is assigned to your project and is there each day, acting as a foreman and also performing carpentry tasks. All subcontracted work is performed by a limited number of highly skilled, licensed companies whose work we know and trust. Our projects have a strict "no smoking" policy.

A successful project is equal parts quality construction and effective management. Ventana Construction’s experienced project managers and office staff provide clear communication and the tools to track project costs and stay on schedule. At weekly or bi-weekly meetings with you and your architect, we discuss budget, identify decisions to be made, and go over anticipated changes in the scope of work. It all makes for a calm, logical and predictable building process.

Our primary goal is to provide superior customer service and productivity to our clients. We accomplish that with clear and frequent communication, an online project management system, and check-ins every 3 months for the first year after the work is complete. In tandem, we work to provide a safe and inspiring workplace for our employees. The benefits we offer ensure we have talented, experienced, and congenial staff members who are excited to come to work.
We also feel strongly that we have a responsibility to our community, and demonstrate that by donating frequently to such diverse community groups as WestSide Baby (www.westsidebaby.org), YMCA Partners with Youth, local elementary schools, Pony League Baseball, the citywide 4th of July fireworks show, and the West Seattle Garden Tour. Finally, we are committed to continuing education and participation in construction industry groups. We are members of the Master Builders Association, the National Association of Home Builders, the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild and the Better Business Bureau.
