The vision was for a kitchen that both drew people in without making them feel like they were entering a cave room.
The previous kitchen was installed when the house was built in the early '90s. Dated cabinets and a walled-in feeling was arbitrary and unnecessary. The truss system allowed two walls to be removed with no additional structural work.
The island hood became a major feature of the kitchen. The stove was previously on the opposite wall, and by moving it to a peninsula the stove becomes a focal point in the kitchen.
The Caesarstone cap on the raised wall defines the room while tying it into the rest of the countertops.
The adjacent stairs had been carpeted, with a non-code oak railing. The new design, with steel stringer/powder-coated railings and carbonized strand bamboo treads and risers, is both contemporary and a huge improvement on the original design.
The railings and treads are also installed into the basement area, which means that when entering the home there is a consistency in finishes, wood tones and flooring. The strand bamboo is installed throughout the main floor, with all new millwork.
A main goal of the project was to remove a wall that separated a sitting area from the kitchen. Now those spaces are connected visually, with a long counter overhang allowing for bar seating.
A new lighting plan utilized some of the existing can lights in the kitchen, and added some additional can lights to reflect the new floor plan.
Under-cabinet lighting at the upper cabinets with glass fronts on both sides sheds light on the task counters below.. The Puc lights inside those cabinets also illuminate stemware from each room.
Unique pendants over the seating bar draw from the same color palette as the stone backsplash and countertop.
Bamboo cabinets by Bellmont are built in a striking horizontal configuration. The wood species works well with tile floors and the adjacent bamboo flooring in a darker color.
A stone and glass mosaic backsplash is perfect compliment to the Caesarstone counter and tile floors. The dark outlet trim minimizes its impact visually. The paint colors selected by the clients compliment all of these beautifully--a pleasing and warm combination of colors.
